Recycling Week

This week is recycling week so the little man and I have spoken a lot about “reduce, reuse, recycle” and ways we can look after the environment. We read The Lorax which is an approachable and fun way to reinforce these ideas. [Seuss, (1971). The Lorax. New York: Random House.]

– habitats and conservation (by pinning pictures onto the globe. Idea from this 3D globe).

– sorting pictures into compost, recycling and garbage bins (bins are pencil sharpeners from Kmart).

– making paper from scraps of paper (I did not want to use our blender so used these instructions. I’m sure you get a smoother result if you use a blender method).

– planting in the garden. The little man chose these four plants which he wants to plant.

New Life

This week we have focused on learning about Easter and what Christ has accomplished for us. One activity we did was to plant some mustard seeds and watch as the new life appeared. (No prizes for guessing who owns the pot on the left in the above photo).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  According to his great mercy,  he has caused us to be born again to a living hope  through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to  an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and  unfading,  kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded  through faith for a salvation  ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5 (ESV)
