Our latest addition to our collection of box vehicles is a fire engine made from a large cardboard box. Being so much bigger than our previous vehicles, I was able to add doors on one side and at the back and it accommodates a few children playing simultaneously.
So far it has been fun (although baby boy’s favourite part is pulling off the cardboard features which the little man is not too happy about).

This firetruck is a much larger box that more than one child could fit into. If you are wanting to make an ambulance that large, I imagine you could leave the box largely intact and cut a door on the side and on the back.
But if you are after a smaller ambulance perhaps my tutorial could help: https://keriene.wordpress.com/2013/08/27/car-box-tutorial-part-1-simple-car/
To make the same shape as the ambulance I made in my Box Vehicles (https://keriene.wordpress.com/2012/10/10/box-vehicles/) I would follow the tutorial for the front and add a piece of cardboard for the windshield and leave the back of the box uncut. Hope that helps, feel free to ask if you have more questions. xo

I’m so sorry that I didn’t see this earlier. This fire engine is just a really large box (perhaps from an appliance) that has a door cut in one side and doors at the back, then covered with red cardboard/cardstock pieces and coloured cardboard/cardstock details. If you are interested in a smaller fire truck, there is a tutorial you can adapt with different colours and detailing here: https://keriene.wordpress.com/2013/08/31/box-car-tutorial-part-2-larger-truck
